It’s that time of year again—the time to take inventory of your life and choose new habits that will best serve you in this new season. The beginning of a new year always welcomes reflection and goal-setting. But let’s face it, how many unattainable goals have we set for ourselves only to drop a month or two into the year? What’s meant to be refreshing soon becomes stressful and disappointing. We realize yet again that we can’t keep our lofty commitments. Let’s flip the script this year by setting attainable (and intentional) New Year’s resolutions for your inner creative. These resolutions will focus on elevating your mind, body, and spirit—and will actually be enjoyable, too!
We’ve got 5 simple yet effective New Year’s resolutions to sprinkle into your routine. The whole idea behind this process is choosing habits that you will love and enjoy. Your resolutions should excite you, not stress you out or feel like a chore.
This one’s simple enough, especially if you have a friend or two who’s willing to join in. The key here is to pick a book you will actually enjoy—something you can’t wait to dig into after a long day. We’ve found reading to be the perfect winter hobby for those dark, cozy evenings by the fire. For some ideas of books we’ve loved lately in the Studio, check out our Instagram post.
We loooove adding this to our evening routine. While we’d like to say that we do this every night, it’s probably more realistic to say we do this once in a while. Remember, it’s all about setting attainable and realistic goals for you right now. So grab a beautiful journal and reflect on your day or do a gratitude practice. Maybe start off with once a week. Need some journal inspiration? We love STIL’s Classics Planner.
Here at Lāer Studio, our team is all about opting for sustainable practices and products that are good for you and the planet. We know it can be daunting, but we love these sustainable living blogs that show us how easy it is to make everyday choices that have a positive impact on our environment. Maybe it’s investing in a reusable water bottle, buying soap and laundry tabs to eliminate plastic, or opting for natural, homemade cleaning and beauty products. Not to mention our founder, Rachel’s sister, Aimee, has her own sustainability account, and she has a wealth of knowledge behind her.
The long-forgotten art of letter writing is something we’re trying to reclaim in 2022. There’s something special about putting pen to paper and letting your friends know just how much they mean to you. Call us old-fashioned, but it’s more meaningful than any text or email! Make it even more fun by treating yourself to personalized stationery. Our favorite is Papier’s notecard set. Start off with one letter a month and maybe ramp it up if you’re on a roll.
It can be easy to let those weeknights slip by during these cold winter months as you scroll on your phone or watch TV. Since we’re trying to be as intentional as possible with our time, we’re setting a limit on our screen time every night to check in with our loved ones or pick up a hobby we’ve been meaning to try. We encourage you to pick a realistic time to power down your devices for the evening. Instead, have a movie night with your friends or tackle that book you’ve been talking about.
There’s no exact formula for what’s best for you and your schedule, but take a look at these options and decide what’s doable for you. Even better, get a friend involved and tag team these New Year’s resolutions together. Above all, don’t stress out about it. If you fall off the bandwagon a month or two into the year, it’s okay. Decide if it’s worth recommitting to and go from there. We invite you to welcome change in this peaceful, intentional way. No strict commitments or daunting chores. Simply focus on what you love.
